How we chose
We included tools that (1) have a free plan you can run a real sign-up on, (2) let people sign up from a link and (3) work on a phone. We checked each tool’s own pages on October 25, 2026, and used review sites only for details the official pages didn’t show. We make SignUpSheet.page, so it is listed first and labeled; the others are ordered by how close they are to SignUpGenius.

The options
1. SignUpSheet.pageOurs
Best for: ad-free sign-ups with no accounts, and groups that speak several languages.
Unlimited sheets with slot limits, automatic waitlists, a reminder email the day before, calendar buttons and CSV export. The same site runs yes/maybe/no date polls, group cards and chip-in collections, in 15 languages. Nobody creates an account; the organizer gets a private link by email.
Watch out for: no app, no text messages, only a few short custom questions (2 free, 10 with a paid option), and no tickets, stores or waivers. It is new, so there are few outside reviews yet.
2. SignUp.com
Best for: schools and teams that want apps and payments inside the sign-up.
The free Basic plan includes 1 custom question field, 1 group page and 1 primary organizer, and shows ads.[3] Removing ads costs $9.99 a month or $99 a year.[6] Participants sign up without an account,[5] and can pay by card, bank, PayPal or Venmo through the organizer’s Stripe or PayPal account.[13]
Watch out for: ads on the free plan and the single-organizer limit.
3. VolunteerSignUp.org
Best for: volunteer coordinators who want a free tool with hour tracking.
It calls itself “100% FREE”, says “there are no ads or fees”, and volunteers need “no registration”. It tracks volunteer hours, closes a task once it is full and says it is “Mobile friendly”.[7]
Watch out for: organizers register (the create button opens a registration page), and its homepage mentions no app and no other languages.[7]
4. Evite SignUp Sheets
Best for: people who already have an Evite account.
Evite says sign-up sheets are “100% free” and “Ad-free: No popup ads ever!”, with reminders, sign-up notifications, messages, private volunteer details and CSV and print export.[8]
Watch out for: you need an Evite account, and the page doesn’t say whether participants need one or whether you can collect money.[8]
5. Google Forms
Best for: sign-ups that need custom questions or a Google Sheet.
Free and flexible, but there is no built-in limit per option; organizers install add-ons such as Form Field Limit, Choice Eliminator.[14] Some settings make respondents sign in to Google.[10]
Watch out for: no waitlist, no reminders and no view of what is still open.
6. Perfect Potluck
Best for: potlucks, specifically.
“Fast, Easy, and FREE”: it sends the invitations and automated reminder emails, and has a guest-count calculator and recipes.[11]
Watch out for: the coordinator signs in with a last name and password, and it is built for potlucks only.[11]
7. Cheddar Up
Best for: when collecting money is the main job.
The free plan has unlimited pages with up to 5 items and 1 form or sign-up per page. Card payments cost 3.95% + $0.95 on the free plan, and payers cover the fee by default. Payers can check out as guests.[12]
Watch out for: card fees on the free plan, and the organizer needs an account.[12]
When SignUpGenius is still the right choice
If you use tickets, fundraisers, online stores, text messages or several admins, SignUpGenius puts more of that in one account than the tools above.[15][16] Its paid plans also remove ads: Silver covers 1 sign-up, Gold 10 and Platinum all of them.[16]
